Built from the Bedside.

Blume Lifestyle Press started in hospitals — designing journals that help patients take control of their care. That mission grew into 50 titles across four brands.

It Started in a Hospital

I spent years working as a designer for hospitals, watching firsthand the damage that cancer, chronic illness, and long-term medical treatment inflict on patients — not just physically, but mentally. The stress, the confusion, the feeling of losing control over your own care.

I kept thinking: what if a well-designed journal could actually improve outcomes? Something structured enough to help patients track symptoms, medications, and appointments — but human enough to give them space to process what they're going through. Something that could reduce stress, shorten stays, and support their mental health alongside their medical treatment.

So I built one. And it worked.

From One Journal to Fifty

That first medical patient companion proved something important: when you design a journal for a specific person with a specific need, it becomes a tool — not just a notebook. Patients brought it to appointments. Doctors noticed. Caregivers asked for copies.

The same principle applied everywhere I looked. Hunters needed field logs built around how they actually scout and track game. People working on their mental health needed structured daily practices, not blank pages. Beauty professionals needed client books designed for their workflow. Each community deserved journals built around how they actually work — not generic templates with different covers.

That's how one journal became four brands and fifty titles. Every single one exists because someone needed it.

What Drives This Work

Design That Helps People

I came from healthcare design. Every layout decision — every checkbox, every prompt, every tracking page — is made with the end user's real needs in mind. These journals are tools, not decorations.

Specificity Over Generality

A journal for "everyone" is a journal for no one. Every title we publish is built for a defined community with defined needs — from thyroid patients to fly fishermen to lash technicians.

Better Outcomes

The goal has never changed from day one: help people track what matters, reduce their stress, and give them a sense of control. Whether that's managing a diagnosis or building a morning gratitude practice.

What started as one medical patient companion has grown into a publishing company with 50 titles across four imprints — each one built for a specific community and a specific need.
